Derrick Barnes, who left practice Thursday with a finger injury, will not miss any practice time, Lions coach Dan Campbell said
Two Detroit Lions defensive starters who left practice Thursday avoided serious injury.
Lions coach Dan Campbell said both cornerback Terrion Arnold (leg) and linebacker Derrick Barnes (finger) will be on the field for the team's first padded practice of training camp today.
Arnold and Barnes suffered their injuries in the second half of practice and walked off the field under their own power.
Barnes missed most of last season with a knee injury but is expected to play a key role in the Lions' front seven this fall. Arnold made 15 starts as a rookie and is off to a strong start of camp this summer.
"He’s where I would expect him to be going into Year 2 after four days," Campbell said before practice. "You expected another level of confidence, of maturity and ownership, really. Accountability. And that’s what you feel right now at this point, which is exactly what we wanted to feel so like where he’s at going into pads."
The Lions battled injuries on defense all of last season, when they won a franchise-record 15 games, and have had at least one player leave practice every day of training camp so far this summer.
Second-year cornerback Ennis Rakestraw Jr. suffered a chest injury on Day 1 of camp and has not returned to practice. Defensive tackle Roy Lopez (foot) and running back Sione Vaki (hamstring) remain out after leaving Day 2 of practice, and Brodric Martin (foot) and Jamarco Jones (cramping) left on Day 3 but were back on the practice field Thursday.
