The Cleveland Cavaliers haven’t had an overwhelming amount of success over the course of their history, but they will always be special to the city.
The other Cleveland sports teams like the Guardians and Browns have been the poster children for sustained failure in their respective leagues, so the Cavs have been carrying the torch for decades.
They were blessed with hometown hero LeBron James, and although he’s left the team multiple times, in 2016 he delivered the city its first championship in over 50 years.
As special as it is to win any championship, 2016 is considered the greatest ring in NBA history after James pulled off a comeback from a 3-1 series deficit to beat the Golden State Warriors.
Recently, a member from the legendary team spoke about how hard it is to play with James.
Richard Jefferson was a star early in his career for the then-New Jersey Nets, but by the time he joined the Cavs he was just a solid role player.
These types of players typically have a difficult time adjusting to playing with the king because of the constant pressure they’re under to perform and the lack of touches they receive.
Jefferson revealed what it’s like to play with James and why it’s so difficult, explaining, “Playing with LeBron sucks because you’re trying to win a championship. He is one of the most competitive human beings in the history of American sports and sports in general. Does it suck when you’re showing up and he’s already been practicing for four hours and you’re like ‘oh s***.’ When he’s watching film and you mess up a play, and he’s just like, ‘motherf***er, what are you doing?'”
James and his fans are always expecting to compete for championships, so role players’ importance is heightened.
However, Jefferson and the rest of the squad were able to overcome the pressure and help James bring glory back to Cleveland.
