As reported by L’Équipe, the Round of 32 Coupe de France tie between RC Lens and FC Sochaux has been cancelled after decisions made by local authorities due to weather concerns. With the match set to be played at the Stade Auguste-Bonal in Sochaux, heavy snowfall has resulted in the match scheduled for Saturday evening being cancelled.
The decision was made by the French Football Federation and local authorities after an inspection and a meeting that was held at 2pm on Saturday afternoon. With a host of supporters already travelling, Lens fans are disappointed by the decision and are trying to reverse it. The pitch remains playable due to tarpauling. However, the extent of the snowfall has made access to the stadium difficult. 20,000 spectators were expected to attend the Coupe de France match. The fixture could be rescheduled for tomorrow afternoon at 3pm or a later date in the future.
