Virginia Tech football: Hokies land another premier pass rusher

The Hokies land another elite pass-rushing prospect.

Virginia Tech head coach James Franklin is at it again. During Wednesday’s basketball game against Stanford, Franklin and defensive coordinator Brent Pry were strategically behind the TV announcers. Why? Franklin and Pry were hosting a transfer they badly wanted to land: Baylor EDGE Kamauryn Morgan.

Good news: Morgan revealed he was headed to Blacksburg to continue his college career.

This can’t be overstated: Morgan is a massive addition for the Hokies, especially considering they landed Javion Hilson last week. The 6-foot-5, 251-pound Morgan is from Dallas, Texas, and was a consensus 4-star prospect in the 2025 recruiting class. He appeared in 10 games for Baylor as a freshman in 2025, making six tackles.

Morgan looks like he could line up and rush the passer in the NFL right now. He’s built similarly to Hilson, a former 5-star prospect, and both will look to start immediately for Tech on the edges in 2026. Hilson redshirted last fall and has four years of eligibility remaining, whereas Morgan has three, plus a redshirt option. Franklin does not plan on redshirting him.

Do we see a pattern in how Franklin has attacked the portal? He’s landing numerous former 4-star prospects with multiple years of eligibility remaining. While several of the new additions (more are coming) need more development, it’s a low-risk, high-reward strategy. Morgan and Hilson possess unlimited potential at one of the most important positions on the field. The Hokies feel good about their defensive line’s interior. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Tech take maybe one more edge rusher.

Morgan is the 12th confirmed addition for Virginia Tech in the transfer portal. The portal is open for one more week, so expect a busy few days ahead.
