MIAMI GARDENS -- Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel met with reporters to offer an update on Bayron Matos, Artie Burns and touch on a variety of other subjects.

Highlights:

Miami Dolphins' Mike McDaniel discusses new TE Darren Waller.

Bayron Matos 'doing better': Matos is the team's international player who was injured at the end of the first practice of training camp and airlifted to a hospital with upper-body injury.

"That's a tough moment for any team. We were really pumped to hear he has feeling and movement in all extremities. He's doing better and better and that's what we're focused on."

Where's Brewer? Center Aaron Brewer is not on physically unable to perform in order to work with Tua Tagovailoa on snaps. He has a lower-body soft-tissue injury.

"You should see him sooner than later," McDaniel said.

Tua, Tyreek making amends: Tua Tagovailoa said he and Tyreek Hill remain working toward patching things up after Hill's blowup at last season's finale.

McDaniel said "those conversations are real" and "I'm proud of the transparency. That's how men can better themselves."

Burns out: Cornerback Artie Burns also was injured in the first workout, suffering a torn ACL and landing on injured reserve. Asked about the possibility of adding another CB, McDaniel said they are always looking to improve the roster.

"That's a daily process," he said.

CB: Cornell Armstrong was re-signed after Burns went down.

"He has a chip on his shoulder and I like the way he goes about his business," McDaniel said of Armstrong.

Turning to Burns, McDaniel said, "It's hard when you see someone go down." McDaniel added that at times like that, he thinks about the player's journey to get where he did.

"Your heart goes out," McDaniel said.

What's with the sprints? McDaniel said post-practice sprints are a way to combat pre-snap penalties.

"Players are in charge of being the police," McDaniel said.

Grant making an impression: McDaniel said the Dolphins knew they couldn't wait to get production from first-round pick Kenneth Grant, a defensive tackle, and they have not been disappointed.

McDaniel praised the rookie's professionalism to date and said teammates have noticed how Grant carries himself.

Silent Minkah? McDaniel was asked about S Minkah Fitzpatrick, saying he feels like, "Yes, that's what I was hoping for."

McDaniel said Fitzpatrick has a quiet demeanor but is making an impact. He said Fitzpatrick is working on building relationships with his new teammates before asserting himself more as a leader.

Fitzpatrick still has not spoken to reporters since being traded back to Miami by Pittsburgh.
