Barcelona are once again facing a delicate decision in goal, and the spotlight is firmly on Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, the German goalkeeper’s immediate future is now largely in his own hands, with the next few days expected to be decisive.

At present, it has been made clear that Ter Stegen can remain at the club if he wishes, but he must do so knowing that Joan Garcia currently sits ahead of him in the pecking order.

Option of moving to Girona

This context explains why a possible change of scenery is now being discussed.

Girona have emerged as a potential destination, with a loan move seen as the most realistic option should Ter Stegen decide he needs regular minutes.

However, the situation is far from straightforward, as Girona have a complicated goalkeeping setup, meaning any deal would require careful negotiation and the full agreement of the player.

With the World Cup on the horizon, playing time is a major factor in his thinking, and that reality cannot be ignored.

If Ter Stegen chooses to stay, Barcelona are prepared to accommodate him. He remains under contract until 2028, and the club have no intention of forcing him out.

However, Flick has made his stance clear that even during the Spanish Super Cup, Joan Garcia would start.

The upcoming Copa del Rey tie could represent a crucial moment, potentially offering Ter Stegen a rare opportunity or reinforcing the current hierarchy, but even that is uncertain.

No problem from Barcelona

Should he opt to leave, Barcelona will not put obstacles in his way. On the contrary, the club are willing to ease negotiations, particularly with Girona.

At present, four goalkeepers remain with the squad in Jeddah, and there are no plans for Diego Kochen to return to Barcelona.

Ultimately, the next move belongs to Ter Stegen. Stay and wait, or leave to regain rhythm and visibility.

Barcelona have made their position clear, and now the German must decide what matters most at this stage of his career.
