Kelsey Mitchell did all she could for the Indiana Fever on Tuesday night. The three-time All-Star went off for a game-high 29 points on 11-of-21 shooting, to go along with two rebounds, two assists, a couple of steals and three triples in 35 minutes of action.

It still wasn’t enough, though, as the Fever suffered their second straight loss to the defending champions, the New York Liberty, 98-84.

This defeat saw the Fever fall to 12-12 on the season as they now sit on the No. 7 spot in the WNBA.

For Mitchell, this loss is another clear example of Indiana’s inconsistencies throughout the season. This is exactly why the 29-year-old veteran has decided to sound the alarm for the Fever.

“I don’t think we have wiggle room to figure out anything else,” Mitchell said during her postgame press conference. “It’s a gut-check game every game. Everybody’s trying to make the playoffs, everybody’s trying to be a contender for something, and I think it all comes down to who’s going to be the tougher team for 40 minutes.

"If we want to be that, then we'll have to keep going through these kinds of things to be that. But we can't keep taking steps back. ... There ain't no more room for error.”

Mitchell isn’t sugar-coating here. She’s been around long enough to know how important this stretch of the season is as the Fever come out of the All-Star break. After Tuesday's game, Indiana has 20 games left in the regular season.

The Fever are far from the worst team in the league at the moment, but it’s also hard to deny that they’re just not looking like serious title contenders right now.
