FC Barcelona have reached a final decision on the future of Marcus Rashford as the English forward continues to impress on loan from Manchester United, Fabrizio Romano reveals.

A Change of Scenery

Rashford has rediscovered his best form since arriving at Camp Nou in the summer window — a move he described as fulfilling a childhood “dream”.

However, it was a nightmare Rashford had escaped at the Theatre of Dreams after a public breakdown in his relationship with Ruben Amorim saw him frozen out by the Portuguese coach.

A switch to Aston Villa in January on loan offered a temporary reprieve between the pair until the end of the campaign. Despite improvements in performance at Villa Park, there was no hope of a reconciliation at Old Trafford once Rashford returned last summer.

The 28-year-old was forced to train separately from the first team, designated a member of Amorim’s notorious ‘bomb squad’, alongside Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia. The exclusion pushed Rashford towards Barcelona, with the Spanish giant on the hunt for cheap reinforcements for Hansi Flick’s attack — and a loan move for an England international with Champions League experience, capable of playing across the frontline, fit the bill.

Across 26 appearances for his adopted side, Rashford has scored seven times and provided 11 assists, fully validating the Blaugrana’s decision.

A €30 million (£26m) buy option was included in the deal with United, while Barcelona are providing full coverage of his wage packet at Old Trafford.

In a shocking twist, reports in Spain over Christmas claimed the financial situation at Camp Nou had led the Liga champions to decide against triggering this clause, despite his excellent form, leading to the prospect of Amorim’s most explosive ‘bomb squad’ member returning to Manchester.

A week is a long time, however — and in football, it can be a lifetime.

Last week, Rashford was heading back to United and Amorim was at the helm. This week, Amorim has now been sacked and Romano reveals Barcelona have informed the English forward of their intent to keep him in Catalonia.

Football, bloody hell!

Stick or Twist

Romano expert states that “in the last 24 hours” Barcelona executives have communicated to Rashford’s agents they would “love” him to remain with the club beyond this season.

The Italian transfer guru further claims the club are “very happy” with the loanee’s “performances, versatility, and professionalism” — areas he had been questioned over with United. “Rashford has been fantastic in the first half of the season, always super serious, super professional, never creating any problems and a very good presence in the dressing room — and then, in terms of numbers, doing very well.”

Romano also reveals United have been informed of Barcelona’s interest in keeping Rashford, with INEOS also wanting the loan to become permanent this summer. His status as an academy player means the sale will constitute ‘pure profit’ from a PSR perspective for the Red Devils, ahead of a crucial transfer window for the Mancunian club.

Rashford wants the move; United want the move; and, now, crucially, Barcelona also want the move — with all three parties aware of each other’s intentions. The only thing left to do is sign on the dotted line.
