The Minnesota Timberwolves are one of the NBA's best teams. It is difficult to dispute that, as they reached the Western Conference Finals two years in a row. That is due to the groundwork that President of Basketball Operations Tim Connelly and his front office laid out for the team.
The 2025 offseason has been relatively quiet for the Timberwolves, as they want to keep focusing on their core group. Unfortunately, this has led to discourse about the Timberwolves' ambition and willingness to compete against the best teams in the Western Conference.
On CBS Sports, Sam Quinn released his front office rankings of all 30 NBA teams. He ranked the Timberwolves 11th, which is still in the top half of the league, but it is a bit bizarre that a top-four team for the past two years is considered outside the top 10 when it comes to its front office.
They are building a team well, especially with how well the trade for Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo worked out. The duo from the New York Knicks has become valuable pieces for coach Chris Finch, and they have a long-term future with the team as important players.
The Timberwolves Deserve A Higher Spot In The Rankings
As one of the NBA's best teams, the Timberwolves deserve to be in the top 10. That should be a given, considering this team has been built by the front office and its vision. Connelly knew they needed a defender in the paint, so he got Rudy Gobert in 2022. That has worked out quite well, as the Timberwolves are a fantastic defensive team.
The next goal was surrounding Anthony Edwards with talent, and he has done exactly that. With players like Randle, Gobert, DiVincenzo, and more on the team, the Timberwolves are a dangerous team to play against.
Tim Connelly was asked about his future with the Minnesota Timberwolves:

It is also peculiar that the Philadelphia 76ers and Utah Jazz are above the Timberwolves, considering they are not in the best places at the moment. Minnesota made two consecutive Western Conference Finals runs. They are primed to keep competing at the top level again.
The Timberwolves Have A Bright Future Ahead Of Them
With Edwards as the centerpiece, the Timberwolves' project is going along nicely. Connelly is constantly finding out ways to tinker with the team and improve it, but the 2025 offseason was mostly focused on retaining continuity. They might have lost Nickeil Alexander-Walker, but they see a bright future for Terrence Shannon Jr. as the next man up.
we’re not surprised.

A guard like Rob Dillingham looks quite promising, considering he is a fantastic talent at only 20 years old. He will improve under the Timberwolves' guidance, and he should be the long-term backcourt partner to Edwards.
With a focus on Edwards and Jaden McDaniels, the upward trajectory is clear for the Timberwolves. They can compete as a contender in the Western Conference despite the other top teams' threat. The Oklahoma City Thunder and Denver Nuggets are the biggest threats to the Timberwolves, but everyone in the organization is confident they can keep up.
