Micky van der Ven emerges as Barcelona target with defender keen to leave Tottenham

Another name in the frame.

Tottenham defender Micky van der Ven has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for Barcelona, with the Catalan giants believed to be eager to recruit a center-back in the summer transfer window.

Diario Sport are reporting that the Dutch star is eager to leave Tottenham and would prioritise a move to the Camp Nou.

The report highlights how he’s also able to play at left-back and that Tottenham would prefer to sell him abroad if he does make it clear he wants out at the end of the season.

Van der Ven has also made his admiration for Barcelona legend Carles Puyol recently in a chat on The Overlap which may or may not have helped spark this rumor into life.

“My idol is Carles Puyol, he always has been,” he said.

“He was an elite player, a true leader at Barcelona. He wasn’t even that tall for a central defender, but he always headed corners and scored a lot of goals.

“He was a great player, he had a lot of strength. I liked the way he conducted himself on the pitch. He was the captain, simply, he was.”
