Breaking down the most exciting playoff games from NFL Wild Card Weekend.
Despite our Detroit Lions missing out on the dance this year, there are still a handful of really good matchups for this year’s NFL Wild Card Weekend. Starting Saturday, January 10, we open with the Los Angeles Rams traveling across the country for a game against the NFC South champion Carolina Panthers. We could debate whether or not it is fair that a team like the Panthers is able to host a playoff game, but that is a conversation for another day.
Later that same day we get the third edition of the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears, and with how that second game between the divisional foes ended, it should be an entertaining game to take in. That is, if you are able to suppress the initial sick feelings you get once the game begins.
After those two games on Saturday, we get a trio of games on Sunday, beginning with the Buffalo Bills visiting the Jacksonville Jaguars at 1 p.m. ET. I lean towards Buffalo here, but Jacksonville has been playing really well as of late, and are probably the more complete team at the moment.
Next up is a familiar matchup at 4:30 p.m. between two longtime NFC foes, with the San Francisco 49ers hitting the road for a heavyweight fight against the defending Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles. And with the way the Bears ran over the Eagles a few weeks ago, my gut has me going with the Bay Area in this one. Last but not least are the final AFC games between the Los Angeles Chargers and the New England Patriots on Sunday evening, and Monday’s game between the Houston Texans and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Overall, it’s a really strong weekend with plenty of intriguing storylines. With that said, which game are you most looking forward to in the first-round of the 2025 NFL playoffs?
My answer: If we are going most entertaining, give me the Bills and Jaguars. Regardless of what some may say, there is a lot of pressure on Bills quarterback Josh Allen to carry Buffalo on a deep postseason run. And with the way Jacksonville has been playing as of late, it might not be the best time to catch them at home in front of what should be a really excited fan base.
