ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – One of the area’s top college football players is on the move back to New York.

Waverly High School standout quarterback Joey Tomasso announced officially on X that he will be transferring to play for Colgate University next season. Tomasso, a redshirt freshman at William & Mary in Virginia, is thrilled to comeback to his home state and play the game. In 2023, Tomasso led the Wolverines to a New York State Championship and he holds virtually every major passing record in Waverly history.

Tomasso threw a school-record 9,183 passing yards and rushed for 2,144 rushing yards to go along with 147 career touchdowns. On top of the state title in 2023, Tomasso was named New York State Class C Player of the Year.

Last season, Tomasso scored one rushing touchdown for William & Mary and was the holder on field goals and extra points. Colgate finished the season at (5-7) overall last year. William & Mary racked up a (7-5) record. Both teams are in the  Football Bowl Subdivision level of NCAA D-I.
