An Italian club is eyeing a shock move for a Chelsea outcast, and a transfer might be ideal for the player ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
According to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, Napoli are interested in signing Raheem Sterling as an alternative to Dan Ndoye, who appears set to move to Nottingham Forest.
As a result, the Italian giants are considering alternatives and view the former Man City and Liverpool man as a viable option, as do Bayer Leverkusen.
The English international spent the last season on loan at Arsenal but only made 17 appearances for the Gunners, grabbing two assists.
Therefore, it comes as no surprise that the Gunners chose not to sign him permanently, and now he could be set for a move to Serie A.
Though he has featured 81 times for Chelsea so far, he does not fit into Enzo Maresca’s squad anymore, especially after the Blues signed Jamie Gittens and Estevao Willian in the ongoing transfer window.
Sterling has played 82 times for England but has not featured for the Three Lions since the 2022 World Cup quarter-final defeat to France.

Why a move away from Chelsea could revive Sterling’s career

At this point, Sterling’s number one priority should be getting back to playing first-team football at a top club.
If he can find a way to do that, he could also find a way to make it into Thomas Tuchel’s team for the 2026 World Cup.
But first, Sterling will aim to complete a move away from Chelsea this summer if he is to be at all guaranteed of first-team football next season.
