Florida transfer quarterback DJ Lagway has committed to Baylor, giving the Bears a major boost at the most important position as they reshape their roster for the upcoming season.
Lagway announced his decision Thursday after entering transfer portal, according to On3. A former Five-Star Plus+ prospect and the No. 3 overall recruit in the 2024 class, Lagway will have two seasons of eligibility remaining in Waco.
The commitment came shortly after an official visit to Baylor, where Lagway attended Wednesday night’s men’s basketball game against Iowa State alongside longtime Bears coach Dave Aranda. The two were shown together during the television broadcast, showcasing the program’s all-in pursuit of the former blue-chip quarterback.

Lagway’s decision represents a significant coup for Baylor. He finished as the No. 9 quarterback and No. 22 overall player in On3’s transfer portal rankings for this cycle. The commitment also carries a personal connection. Lagway’s father, Derek, played running back for Baylor in the 1990s, making the move a homecoming of sorts. Lagway is from Willis, Texas, roughly 170 miles southeast of Waco.
The 6-foot-3, 247-pound quarterback originally signed with Florida under then-head coach Billy Napier, arriving as the nation’s top quarterback. However, he'll start a new chapter in the Big 12.
