Ranked bantamweights set to clash at UFC Mexico City, 7 more fights announced for card

The UFC returns to Mexico City on Feb. 28 with Brandon Moreno vs. Asu Almabayev in the main event

The upcoming UFC Mexico City card on Feb. 28 is starting to fill out with the promotion announcing several new fights for the card with former flyweight champion Brandon Moreno set to headline the fight in a matchup against Asu Almabyev.

The entire event airs on Paramount+ with the main card starting at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT with the prelims kicking off at 5 p.m. ET/2 p.m. PT

In addition to the flyweight main event, ranked women’s bantamweights are set to clash in the co-main event with Macy Chiasson taking on Ailin Perez.

With her back against the wall off two straight losses, Chiasson, currently at No. 11 in the MMA Fighting Global Rankings, looks to right the ship when she returns in February while attempting to bounce back after falling to Yana Santos and Ketlen Vieira in her past two appearances in the octagon. Prior to those losses, Chiasson had picked up impressive wins over Mayra Bueno Silva and Pannie Kianzad.

As for Perez, who sits at No. 7 in the rankings, she enters the contest off five consecutive wins in a row while making a steady climb up the bantamweight rankings. Most recently, Perez dispatched Karol Rosa via unanimous decision with hopes that a couple of more wins could put her in title contention at 135 pounds.

Also on the card, Contender Series veterans Damian Pinas and Wes Schultz are scheduled to meet while Ryan Gandra faces Jose Daniel Medina with both fights taking place at middleweight.

Mexico native Edgar Chairez returns to face Felipe Bunes and undefeated prospect Imanol Rodriguez takes on Kevin Borjas in a pair of flyweight fights added to the card.

Santiago Luna is also returning for the card when he faces Angel Pacheco while bantamweights Cristian Quinonez and Kris Moutinho are also set to clash in Mexico City.

Finally a pair of women’s flyweights are set to meet on the card with Sofia Montenegro taking on Ernesta Karackaite.

More fights are expected to be announced for the UFC Mexico City card in the coming weeks.
