Could Dan Pitcher stay in the AFC North for his first head-coaching gig?
The Cincinnati Bengals could be in the market for a new offensive coordinator if Dan Pitcher leaves town.
After two seasons as the Bengals’ OC, Pitcher is set to get interviews for head-coaching openings this offseason.
The first could be with the Cleveland Browns, who’ve reportedly put in a request to interview Pitcher to be their next head coach. Dianna Russini of The Athletic broke the news first.
The Bengals have yet to issue a response to said request.
The 38-year-old Pitcher, who previously served as a scout for the Indianapolis Colts (2012-16), first joined the Bengals in 2016 as an offensive assistant under then-head coach Marvin Lewis. When Lewis and his staff were let go, Pitcher was someone Zac Taylor managed to hold on to, and it’s turned into a great long-term move.
Pitcher was promoted to assistant quarterbacks coach in 2019 and to quarterbacks coach in 2020. When offensive coordinator Brian Callahan was hired by the Tennessee Titans in the 2024 offseason, Pitcher was promoted to that spot.
Ironically, if Pitcher were to leave Cincinnati to become a head coach, Callahan is a free agent after being fired by the Titans this past season. Even if Pitcher remains with the Bengals, Callahan is likely someone that Taylor would like to bring back to his staff in some capacity.
