There’s been a lot of speculation about which players might benefit most from the recent manager change at Chelsea, with Liam Rosenior coming in to replace Enzo Maresca.

There’s one obvious choice – a player who Maresca never fancied and who Rosenior has a good recent history with.

Santos name-checked by Rosenior in opening interview

Andrey Santos speaks to Chelsea TV.

Andrey Santos was a player Chelsea fans were really excited about seeing this year after his exploits with Strasbourg under Rosenior last year, but he never really cracked Maresca’s teams apart from in rotated sides. Rosenior name-checked the Brazilian in his really impressive opening interview with the club’s official website:

“Obviously, I had Andrey Santos last year [at Strasbourg]; he’s got two beautiful children that he’s brought into the world and he had an outstanding performance at Manchester City. But what I want to do is to get to know all of them very quickly because I think if you get to know people, you can improve them, and if they improve individually, you improve the collective and you win games.”

“That’s what my staff and I will do very, very quickly here.”

Santos’ problem with Maresca was that there was no natural role for him in the first team, with £100m men Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo taking up two midfield spots and Cole Palmer the third. How Rosenior intends to fit him in will be really interesting.

In other news…

The new coach also spoke about what he was most excited about bringing to Chelsea, with support from the Stamford Bridge crowd sure to be a vital part of his time at the club.

Rosenior also spoke about what kind of coach he thinks he is, with some really interesting quotes on the kind of qualities he thinks he can bring to the role.
