The Las Vegas Raiders have released a statement after releasing defensive tackle Christian Wilkins on Thursday.

"We have decided that it is in the best interests of the organization to move on from Christian Wilkins. This franchise has a Commitment to Excellence on and off the field. With no clear path or plan for future return to play from Christian, this transaction is necessary for the entire organization to move forward and prepare for the new season," the Raiders social media accounts posted.

Wilkins was released by Las Vegas due to how he was handling his rehab, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. The Raiders designated the release of Wilkins with the terminated vested veteran tag and also voided the rest of the guarantees in his deal.

"Raiders are releasing defensive tackle Christian Wilkins with the designation of terminated vested veteran. His time in Las Vegas is now over," Schefter wrote on X.

"Due to how Wilkins treated the rehab from his foot injury he suffered last season, the Raiders voided the remaining $35.2 million of guaranteed money left on Wilkins contract last month and today, Wilkins filed a grievance with the NFLPA," Schefter added on X.

After signing a four-year, $110 million contract with the Raiders last offseason, Wilkins was expected to be a franchise cornerstone. However, he played just five games in 2024 due to a Jones fracture and has turned into one of the team's biggest free agency busts.

Additionally, Las Vegas' blunt statement on Wilkins' release likely signals their frustration with the veteran defensive tackle and how he treated his rehab, leading them to void the remaining $35.2 million in guarantees.

Wilkins isn't going down without a fight, though, as he filed a grievance with the NFLPA. This situation still needs a final resolution.
