Fabio Wardley wouldn’t mind putting his WBO title on the line against Tyson Fury.
With former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury acknowledging his intended return to boxing this year, he’s mentioned the likes of WBO titleholder Fabio Wardley as a potential opponent. That’s something that has caught Wardley’s strict attention as a fight he’d like to pursue, as he explains to Sky Sports.
“It was good [to be named on Tyson Fury’s hit list] because he was already on mine. It makes no difference to me,” Wardley said. “I think being open [to negotiations] might be a bit of an understatement. I’d be extremely keen to see if he’s genuine about it or not.
Wardley says he’s never had any intention of trying to run off with his belt and is willing to defend it against any worthy challenger, and Fury is certainly a big enough name for him to warrant an opportunity. Wardley believes that Fury might be looking at him as an easy touch to pick up a world title and move on to bigger fights, but says Fury would be sadly mistaken in that regard.
If Wardley is unable to secure a fight with Fury, he could alternatively turn his attention to Derek Chisora, with Wardley saying that would be a box office attraction in the UK. Of course Wardley is very confident on the outcome of such a matchup, saying while it would be great for the fans, it’s fight that only ends one way.
