The Gophers are bringing in a Big Ten kickoff specialist
Michigan kicker Beckham Sunderland has committed to transferring to Minnesota.
He has two years of eligibility remaining.
Sunderland is the nephew of former Michigan kicker Brandon Kornblue and a former Major League Soccer player who spent three seasons in the league as a goalkeeper before medically retiring due to concussions. He then started training with his uncle to become a college kicker, earning a roster spot at Texas State in 2024, coached by current Minnesota special teams coach Daniel Da Prato.
He spent this season at Michigan, where he handled kickoffs, recording 44 touchbacks on 71 kickoffs.
The only placekicker on the Gophers’ roster at the moment is Daniel Jackson, who redshirted as a true freshman this season. It’ll be interesting to see if he and Sunderland split kicking duties next season.
