The Horned Frogs dip into the Division II pool and land a veteran back from Fort Worth.
The TCU Horned Frogs are welcoming a Fort Worth native into the fold. Multiple reports Tuesday afternoon revealed that Colorado School of Mines running back Landon Walker has committed to TCU and will play with the Horned Frogs as a graduate transfer. One of the top running backs at the NCAA Division II level, Walker has carried the ball 341 times for 2,220 yards (6.5 yards per carry) and 29 touchdowns over five years at the school. Walker, who earned his bachelor’s degree, will arrive in Fort Worth with one year of eligibility remaining.
Walker redshirted in 2021 before earning his first reps at running back as a redshirt freshman in 2022, when he ran the ball 26 times for 215 yards and three scores in 11 games played. The 6-foot-2, 225-pounder has played in 39 games over five years and will provide a punch to the Horned Frog backfield, which has lost two transfers in redshirt sophomore Derrick Carroll and redshirt freshman Nate Palmer. TCU is also losing seniors Kevorian Barnes and Trent Battle to graduation/eligibility expiration, but the Horned Frogs are welcoming in two true freshman ball carriers in four-star prospect Amante Martin and three-star prospect G’Ivori Graham.
Walker was dominant over the 2023 and 2024 seasons. In 2023, Walker rushed 108 times for 790 yards (7.3 yards per carry) and a career-high 12 touchdowns in 14 games. The following season, he carried the ball a career-high 120 times for 741 yards and 11 touchdowns. Out of the backfield, Walker caught 46 passes for 295 yards and four scores in his career at the School of Mines. Walker is the sixth transfer portal addition for the Horned Frogs.
