Tuesday Bantering: Kazuma Okamoto

Happy Tuesday. I played badminton this morning. I’m trying out the game because I don’t think I’m going to be playing squash for many more years. It is hard on the joints. But the problem, for me, is that Badminton isn’t much of a workout. I played for an hour and a half, taking about […]

Happy Tuesday. I played badminton this morning. I’m trying out the game because I don’t think I’m going to be playing squash for many more years. It is hard on the joints. But the problem, for me, is that Badminton isn’t much of a workout. I played for an hour and a half, taking about 1000 steps. Squash, if I play for an hour, I’ll be about 5000 steps.

Anyway….

There isn’t much for Jays news, he says for roughly the 60th time this off-season.

The team introduced Kazuma Okamoto to the press and us today. There was a neat little story that Okamoto showed his daughter all the MLB logos and she picked the Blue Jays logo. Smart kid.

In English, he said:

Hello everyone, my name is Kazuma Okamoto. Thank you very much for this opportunity. I am very happy to join the Blue Jays. I will work hard every day and do my best for the team. Thank you for your support. Nice to meet you. Go Blue Jays.

After that he spoke through a translator. I’d imagine learning English will take a while.

I’m looking forward to watching him play.

Beyond that, Ross Atkins said the team is still open to adding more players, but that ‘”We do feel good about our team. Additions at this point will start to cut away at playing time for players we feel are good major league pieces.”

But Ross, I’d much rather have a great player than a good player. I’d still love to have Bo back. I’d also like to watch Kyle Tucker for the next several years.

I love this line from Scott Boras:

Ross does seem to be one of the few GM’s doing things.

MLB Trade Rumors had a poll asking if the Jays would add another bat before Opening Day and 75% said yes. Which, of course, means nothing, but I’d like to think they are right.

I wish there was more Jays’ stuff to talk about.
