Welcome to Tuesday, Bulldog fans! And not just any Tuesday, but the first of 2026 and the first without meaningful Bulldog football for many moons. So as we look back at what could have been, we reminisce about good ol’ days riding around in a black limousine, looking so fine, drinking and dancing. But those days are gone, wrecked, washed up. If only someone had put these thoughts to song, specifically a good bluesy rock song in the early 80’s, and added some grungy guitar and harmonica to convey the edginess of it all. Ladies & Gentlemen… The Rolling Stones!
(This live version went with more sax than harmonica (it looks like Bobby Keys), but I did want to get some Ronnie Wood into the mix this season.)
The transfer portal continues to throw the sport into utter chaos… errrr… I mean allows young men and women to chase their dreams unfettered by archaic NCAA restrictions. Macondawg alerted you to the addition of Clemson DB Khalil Barnes. On the minus side, we’re down an OL, a RB, a TE, a DL, a LB, and 2 DBs – none of which played more than sparingly this season. And the TE, Pearce Spurlin, has recently been cleared to return to football but because of said NCAA rules is medically ineligible to play again for UGA.
The NFL draft is going to take a few Bulldogs, and now we know that it will take the most productive wide receiver in recent UGA history. All I’ve got to say is, thanks Z, your time here was productive and sometimes electrifying.
And on the heels of that, beloved linebacker CJ Allen also declared. He of the making almost every tackle, he of the drop into coverage, he of the blitzing gaps, he of the heroic plays saving the Bulldogs collective behind on many, many occasions. What we might miss most of all was the vocal and demonstrative leadership on a very young defense. That will be the hardest skill to replace.
So our most dependable DT, LB, and WR are now off to play pro ball. I mean, play ball and not be enrolled in an academic program with demonstrable progress towards a degree.
This time last year we were learning that Carson Beck was not going to the NFL draft, but instead taking his talents to Coral Gables/Miami Gardens. There’s a piece that portrays his decision in a favorable light… to Carson Beck and Miami. It is a fair assessment, and only skims at the off-field rumours about his time in Athens. It also barely hints at the not 4, not 5, not 6, not 7 interceptions he had in the middle of the season leading to losses at Alabama and Ole Miss.
The Gym Dogs open up their 2026 campaign Saturday afternoon in Columbus against #21 An State College in that school up north from us. I fear the heady days of Suzanne Yoculan stacking national championships are far in the rearview, but if the injury bug stays away and they can stay on the balance beam, this squad has potential to make a little splash and start building back to the top 15-20 in the country.
The now top 20 ranked Georgia Bulldogs men’s basketball team (yes, you read that right) is playing tonight in Gainsville for their first true road test and a big conference matchup. The defending national champions started this season at #3 in the AP, but a tough non-conference schedule has produced losses to Arizona, TCU, Duke, and UConn, plus a 2 point deficit in their SEC opener at Missouri. So while it’s a Quad1 game no doubt, the jort-jumping Mullet Buckets are currently unranked.
You have another week to pine for ‘Dawgs on Tour, since the PGA season start was delayed one week by some weird circumstances. Mom, you’ll just have to wait to read that one. For the rest of you, have yourselves a Tuesday. And as always…
GO ‘DAWGS!!!
