As the Spanish Super Cup nears, Real Madrid are in a race against time to recover certain key players from injury.
Dean Huijsen, who missed the clash against Real Betis with a thigh setback, has trained normally with the group and is expected to be available for the event.
The situation with Kylian Mbappe, however, continues to be uncertain as has been the case since his initial injury.
Contrasting reports have painted a hazy image of the Frenchman’s return, with some outlets claiming he will play the Supercup and others insisting that he will not make it back in time.
A realistic update
Now, as relayed by COPE, Mbappe is indeed improving and feeling better than he was at the time of his diagnosis. He trained individually yesterday and has positive sensations.
However, saying that he is fit enough to participate in the Spanish Super Cup would be jumping the gun and a tad bit overoptimistic.

Miguel Angel Diaz (h/t The Madrid Zone) relays that Mbappe is ruled out against Atletico Madrid for all practical reasons and will not be available for the derby.
Should Real Madrid reach a hypothetical final, even that will be difficult for him to return for.
The player, however, wishes to travel with the team to Saudi Arabia just in case and to be with his teammates for their possible first trophy of the season.
If he feels fully fit at any point, he will communicate his feelings and play in the event. However, it is clear that he will not be forced to play through any discomfort and will not feature unless he is at 100%.
With Mbappe ruled out against Atletico Madrid, it is almost a no-brainer for Xabi Alonso to persist with Gonzalo Garcia after his statement performance at the weekend.
