Bayern mull closing whole stand after UEFA sanction for pyrotechnics

Bayern Munich may play their upcoming Champions League home game in front of one completely empty stand after UEFA's sanction for fan use of pyrotechnics, chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen said "We will have to close blocks 111 to 114. But we are really considering closing the entire south stand.

Bayern Munich may play their upcoming Champions League home game in front of one completely empty stand after UEFA's sanction for fan use of pyrotechnics, chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen said

"We will have to close blocks 111 to 114. But we are really considering closing the entire south stand. We have already discussed that, but have not yet made a final decision," t-online quoted Dreesen as saying during a fan club visit on Sunday in Neufahrn in Bavaria.

European governing body UEFA stipulated that blocks 111 to 114 in the lower tier of the south stand at the Allianz Arena must remain closed for the next Champions League home game on January 21 against Saint-Gilloise after fireworks were set off against Sporting in December.

A complete closure of the south stand was thus spared for Bayern, but the club might go ahead anyway.

"The problem is, if I now just close blocks 111 to 114, then people will spread out and in part the wrong people are affected," Dreesen added.

Bayern have already sought talks with the ultras.

"I would strongly appeal to those who regularly set off pyrotechnics to perhaps realize that they are harming the club," Dreesen said.

"And that it is also not tolerated and accepted by the majority of fans in the stadium."
