Key details and clauses in Barcelona’s loan-to-buy deal for 17-year-old African prodigy

It is known that Barcelona are now edging closer to finalising the arrival of highly rated Egyptian prospect Hamza Abdelkarim.

While it was already known that Barcelona were working on the operation, a recent report from AS has revealed further details surrounding the structure of the agreement with Al Ahly.

The deal is approaching completion and will see Abdelkarim join Barcelona on an initial loan spell until the end of the season.

More importantly, the move does not involve any immediate financial compensation.

However, reaching this point required adjustments to the original proposal, with Al Ahly pushing for improved conditions before giving the green light.

Details of the transfer

One of the most notable changes concerns Barcelona’s future commitment.

The percentage clause on a potential future sale has increased from 10% to 15%, ensuring Al Ahly retain a stronger stake in the player’s long-term value.

In addition, the purchase option that Barcelona can activate after the loan period has risen from €1.25 million to €1.5 million.

Performance-related variables have also been revised upwards and could now reach a total of €5 million.

Deadline for Barcelona

As negotiations progressed, further safeguards were introduced.

The agreement includes a clear deadline for Barcelona to exercise the purchase option, set for the first week of June.

If the Catalan club do not act by then, the option will automatically expire, returning full control of the player’s future to Al Ahly.

Another key point of discussion was insurance. Al Ahly successfully insisted on the inclusion of a protective clause if Abdelkarim suffers a serious injury during his loan spell.

This condition was ultimately accepted by Barcelona, given that the player is expected to feature for Barça Atletic.

Furthermore, reports suggest that if Barcelona choose not to activate the clause, Al Ahly are prepared to offer Abdelkarim a new four-year contract that would tie him down until the age of 22, protecting their asset regardless of the outcome.
