The Red Sox have a ton of outfield depth. With some of the young players they’ve recently called up, such as Roman Anthony, it could pave the way for Jarren Duran to be traded.
When looking at a potential deal, Last Word on Sports proposed a trade that would move on from Duran in a move involving four prospects. The trade idea would move one of the bigger hauls Major League Baseball has seen in quite some time.
Phillies Receive: Jarren Duran
Red Sox Receive: Mick Abel, Justin Crawford, Eduardo Tait, Moises Chace
“Jim Bowden of The Athletic reported in a column that the Phillies have interest in acquiring Duran. The Red Sox have a surplus of outfielders, and Duran appears to be the odd one out. One roadblock to this deal for the Phillies is that the Red Sox are unlikely to trade Aroldis Chapman, given their recent turnaround. Additionally, the Red Sox’s asking price for Duran would probably be astronomical.
“Duran has a .257/.322/.427 line with eight home runs and 50 RBI in 100 games this season. To add, Duran has a 104 wRC+ and a .328 BABIP this year. Duran is under team control through the 2028 season. That is part of why the Red Sox asking price for Duran will be significant,” they wrote.
Moving on from Abel, Crawford, Tait, and Chace would be very questionable, but anything is possible.
Ultimately, the Phillies must be cautious not to give up too much.
While Duran is an excellent player — an All-Star last year — he likely isn't worth all of that.
