The Los Angeles Dodgers could be looking for an outfielder at the trade deadline, as Michael Conforto has turned out to be a failed signing in left field.
Conforto is slashing .185/.297/.320 on the season. The Dodgers need an upgrade and have been unwilling to hand left field over to Hyeseong Kim. Perhaps that will change when Max Muncy returns and Tommy Edman can return to second base full-time. However, the trade deadline is an opportunity for them to add a star at the position.
The Cleveland Guardians could be unloading some of their stars, and ESPN's David Schoenfield predicted the Dodgers would trade for Steven Kwan at the trade deadline.
"The reasoning here: Michael Conforto just hasn't worked out," wrote Schoenfield. "The Dodgers have given him 300 plate appearances and he's hitting under .200, plus he's not a good left fielder. They could also use a leadoff hitter. They just moved Mookie Betts there in front of Shohei Ohtani, looking to get Betts going, but Betts just hasn't been an offensive force in 2025 and shouldn't be hitting at the top of a lineup right now. Kwan would fix both issues and give them a nice OBP guy in front of Ohtani while providing a major defensive upgrade."
Kwan is a two-time All-Star, three-time Gold Glover and has multiple years of club control. He will not be a free agent until 2028, and is projected to earn a six-year, $122 million deal when he hits the open market.

Adding Kwan to the lineup would give the Dodgers an elite leadoff hitter and take some pressure off of Betts, who has been struggling as of late.
