Training Report: Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich can’t train with team

FC Bayern was missing a few key players for the start of its first team session.

Bayern Munich’s first team training session got off to a rousing start — Michael Olise was late (covered by BFW here) and Joshua Kimmich is still dealing with an ankle injury that has hampered him since November.

For Kimmich, individual work was on the menu per FCBayern.com:

Joshua Kimmich sat out the first team training session of 2026, with the FC Bayern midfielder completing an individual build-up programme following the ankle injury he sustained at the end of the year.

Despite the injury, Kimmich played for Germany and also only sat out on November 22nd vs. SC Freiburg and on December 21st vs. Heidenheim. The midfielder pushed through matches against teams like St. Paul, VfB Stuttgart, and Mainz 05 instead of resting. Now, he could be paying the price for it.

Hopefully, this is the tail end of the injury and also some precautionary measures put in place by the Bavarians. If not, this could be a problem.

Bild (via @iMiaSanMia) noted that everyone else was available except Kimmich and Nicolas Jackson, who is on international duty with Senegal:

With the exception of Nicolas Jackson (AFCON) and Joshua Kimmich (ankle problem), the entire squad was available at the training restart today. Manuel Neuer, who missed the last game of the year with a hamstring strain, completed a 45-minute individual session alongside goalkeeping coach Michael Rechner.
