Bayern Munich returned to training on January 3, but a key player was absent. After sustaining an ankle injury last year, Joshua Kimmich continued with his individual rehabilitation ahead of their Matchday 16 clash against Wolfsburg.

Kimmich sat out of Bayern’s 6-2 win over Freiburg in mid-November due to an ankle injury, with Vincent Kompany not wanting to take any unnecessary risks. The 30-year-old was then absent from their final game of 2026, a 4-0 win over Heidenheim.

“Joshua Kimmich sat out the first team training session of 2026, with the FC Bayern midfielder completing an individual build-up programme following the ankle injury he sustained at the end of the year,” read a club statement.

As noted by Kicker, Bayern haven’t given a timeframe on the player’s return.

Bild report that the only other absentees were Nicolas Jackson (AFCON), while Manuel Neuer completed a 45 minute individual session as he works on his return.
