Inter Milan can only pursue a move for João Cancelo if Al-Hilal agree to cover a significant portion of his salary, with the Portuguese defender’s wages remaining the main obstacle to any deal.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Cancelo currently earns around €18 million per season at Al-Hilal, a figure far beyond Inter’s limits. Even halving that amount would still leave the operation financially unsustainable for the Nerazzurri.
“For a return to Serie A, Cancelo would need to earn around €9 million,” the newspaper explains, “which would still be too much.”
As a result, the report adds that only one scenario could make the move viable: Al-Hilal would have to make a substantial contribution towards the player’s wages. Without that support, Inter are prepared to step aside.
Barcelona Wait To Take Advantage Of Inter Cancelo Hesitation
This situation has allowed Barcelona to move into a stronger position. Cancelo would welcome a return to Spain.
The Catalans are currently viewed as the most realistic European option.
Especially if Inter cannot close the financial gap.
From Inter’s perspective, caution remains essential.
The club do not want to commit heavily to a short-term solution that would limit flexibility ahead of the summer window.
Reinforcing the right flank in a more structural way remains the priority.
Indeed, with Marco Palestra still considered the leading long-term target.
At the same time, confidence continues to grow in Luis Henrique.
Indeed, whose recent run of starts has reassured the coaching staff.
Unless Al-Hilal step in decisively, Inter’s stance on Cancelo is unlikely to change.
