NFL Week 18 Preview: Schedule, storylines, matchups to watch | PFF

Matchup to watch: Cowboys WR George Pickens vs. Giants CB Cor’Dale Flott. A lot has changed in the NFL since the Cowboys and Giants met in Week 2, but what has stayed the same are the performances of Cowboys receiver George Pickens (86.0 grade; 9th) and Giants corner Cor’Dale Flott (66.9 grade; 40th). Pickens has had a career year in his first season in Dallas, while Flott has been one of the few bright spots on the Giants’ defense.

When the two faced off in Week 2, Pickens was targeted just twice on 12 snaps when covered by Flott, catching one pass for 14 yards. If Flott covers Pickens again in the final game of the season, expect him to do a standup job once more.

Mike Kafka Reflects on Growth as Giants Interim Head Coach | SI.com

“Absolutely. You’re learning something new every single day,” he said on Wednesday before the Giants’ practice. “I think if you have that kind of mindset, and that’s what we want to stress to our players. You certainly, as I thought about this role in general, you certainly have a plan, you certainly have thoughts on how you would handle certain situations, how you would handle certain players, how you would handle certain things throughout the week, and I’ve tried to implement those things.

“Again, the whole basis and the genesis of everything when I first got it was, ‘Let’s not just make change to make change just because. Let’s do it with intent. Let’s do it for the right reasons and let’s have a well-thought-out process in doing that.’ That’s how we’ve attacked it personally, that’s how I’ve attacked it with the staff and with the players, and I think they’ve responded well.”

The important precedent Giants should consider with Joe Schoen decision looming | New York Post

There are no absolutes, no one right way and no hard-and-fast rule for how it must be done. The Giants either will stick with Joe Schoen as their general manager or will not.

General managers often get two chances to hire a head coach. There is plenty of precedent that the second time is the charm. What this means for Schoen and the Giants will soon be revealed.

Jaxson Dart explains impact Wilson, Winston have had

New Years Resolutions for all 32 NFL Teams | PFF

New York Giants: Trade down and Build Around Jaxson Dart. The Giants are on track to secure a top-three pick in the upcoming draft, but Jaxson Dart has already flashed enough to warrant further investment as the team’s quarterback. With that in mind, New York’s best path forward may be trading down to accumulate additional draft capital rather than selecting another quarterback.

Acquiring more picks would allow the Giants to surround Dart with better protection and additional weapons while continuing to reshape the roster. If New York believes Dart can develop into a long-term answer, maximizing value through a trade-down could accelerate the rebuild and provide flexibility across multiple position groups.

Is Giants finale last we’ll see of Wan’Dale Robinson and two more key free agents? | The Athletic

Given that free-agent wide receivers tend to get paid, Robinson won’t come cheaply. The Jacksonville Jaguars just agreed to a 3-year, $60 million contract extension with Jakobi Meyers, which at least shows the going rate for a steady veteran wide receiver. However, perhaps a more apt comparison is Buffalo Bills slot receiver Khalil Shakir, who signed a four-year, $53 million deal in February. Neither player made it to the open market. If Robinson does, he has a chance to land an even more lucrative contract.

We’ll see what kind of deal RT Jermaine Eluemunor lands this offseason, but if the Giants are going to let him walk, they’d better have a good plan to replace him. For any young quarterback, having a reliable offensive line in front of him is paramount. For a QB like Jaxson Dart, who is prone to taking big hits — though most often when on the run — protecting him needs to be a top priority.

Big Picture: 10 Cowboys-Giants Storylines | DallasCowboys.com

To say the special teams has been an adventure this year would be a massive understatement. Recently, it’s been failed fake punt attempts and against Washington, Brandon Aubrey missed a field goal and the Cowboys also had a field goal and punt blocked. But, on the flip side, KaVontae Turpin had a dazzling 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and Juanyeh Thomas also scored on an onside kick return in the final minute.

NFL Week 18 Preview: Schedule, storylines, matchups to watch | PFF

Storyline of the game: Will the Cowboys’ offense or defense make the bigger impact? The story of the Cowboys’ season heading into the final Week 18 is the dichotomy between the offense and defense. The offense is fourth in EPA on the season, while the defense is 31st in EPA per play allowed. It isn’t as binary as the offense brought the good, and the defense brought the bad — which is why the Cowboys are almost .500 — but it isn’t far off.

If the Cowboys’ offense makes the biggest impact, the team usually wins the game. If the defense does, then a loss is coming. That’s the curse for the Cowboys in 2025. Which unit will show up in the final game of 2025?

Matt Eberflus explains what went wrong this season for Cowboys defense | The Athletic

Judging by comments made by Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones over the last few weeks, it seems unlikely that Eberflus will be returning for a second season, meaning Dallas would be looking for its fourth defensive coordinator in four years.

“I think the start of the year, guys were in and out, in terms of we weren’t at full force,” Eberflus said. “And then when we got some guys back, I thought we had a good stretch there. I thought the stretch was pretty good. We started to improve. I know we improved in the run defense and the third-down defense. And then from there we just didn’t execute the way we wanted to at certain moments. Certainly, some good execution in there at times, but it’s got to be better.”
