Wake Forest, Mississippi State prepare to battle in Charlotte for right to Duke’s Mayo bath

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The College Football Playoff may be in full swing, but one of the most beloved bowl games of the season takes place Friday night. 

The Duke’s Mayo Bowl features two teams that have won the game in the last 10 years: Wake Forest and Mississippi State. 

The bowl game at Bank of America Stadium, however, is mostly well known for the mayonnaise bath that is given to the head coach of the winning team.

Last year, Minnesota head coach PJ Fleck was given the honor when the Golden Gophers took down Virginia Tech.

Wake enters with an 8-4 record in the first year under head coach Jake Dickert. The Deacons have won three of their last four games and in 2017, defeated Texas A&M in a shootout in Charlotte. 

Two years earlier, Mississippi State and quarterback Dak Prescott took down NC State. The Bulldogs carry a 5-7 record into Friday’s game and have lost seven of their last eight games. 

The Duke’s Mayo Bowl kicks off at 8 p.m.
