Cam Miller leaves for Miami Dolphins
Cam Miller’s career with the Las Vegas Raiders is over before it truly began.
Thursday, three days before the season finale, the rookie quarterback has left the Raiders’ practice squad and has signed with the Miami Dolphins’ 53-man man roster. That means, Miller, a sixth-round draft pick from North Dakota State, is now property of the Dolphins for the rest of his rookie contract unless he is waived in the future. But, Miller will now head to the Dolphins and be part of their 2026 offseason.
Either the Raiders didn’t think Miller was ready to be on the 53-man roster or Miller was ready for a change of scenery because Las Vegas could have easily fit Miller on the active roster for the final game. Geno Smith isn’t expected to play against Kansas City on Sunday with an ankle injury, so he could have been put on the injured reserve to make room for Miller.
Miller had an up-and-down preseason for the Raiders before being cut in August. He signed with the Raiders’ practice squad after clearing waivers. He completed 20 of 37 passes for 203 yards with one touchdown and one interception in August. Reportedly, Raiders’ part owner Tom Brady was high on Miller in the draft process.
The Raiders also drafted small-school quarterback Tommy Mellott in the sixth round. he was converted to a wide receiver and was cut and not signed to the practice squad unlike Miller. He spent some time on the New Orleans Saints’ practice squad, but has since been released.
