Not all transfer decisions are clear cut. One Liverpool star has a major career choice to make.
The competition for places couldn't be higher that it is right now, with Arne Slot's call for a thin squad now appearing to have backfired, as he struggles to find experienced options to compete for places.
Liverpool's injury list currently includes Giovanni Leoni, Alexander Isak, Wataru Endo, Stefan Bajcetic, and Joe Gomez, while Dominik Szoboszlai missed the Wolves game and Mohamed Salah is away with Egypt at AFCON. The depth of players we're used to having isn't available right now.
For those in the academy, this situation perhaps represents an opportunity to be called up by Slot and given a chance to prove themselves at the senior level, although they'll only be deployed if it's been deemed that they're ready for the challenge. It's this conflict that creates career dilemmas.
Danns has a HUGE decision to make
Even though Jayden Danns also finds himself sidelined right now while he's recovering from a hamstring injury that resulted in him being forced to have surgery, he could soon find himself available for selection and it'll be up to Slot as to whether we'll see him play again this season.
The English striker has been deployed in Liverpool's domestic cup games over the three seasons and his development in that time has been really promising. This latest injury has halted things.
When his fitness is no longer a concern, Slot might consider reintegrating him into the set-up, especially now that Isak has a broken leg which means the Swede might not be back until March.
But there are no guarantees, which means that Danns might find himself stuck with the under-21s for the remainder of the campaign. It's unknown whether the Dutchman would be inclined to accept that.
Alternatively, it might be possible for the Reds to arrange for a loan move to be agreed, meaning he gets the opportunity to play regularly at a slightly harder level than he'd get in the academy setup.
Either option would help to set the 19-year-old up for a better 2026 if he can avoid having a recurring injury spell. There's been no indication that Liverpool are thinking about giving up on the forward.
But a loan move might open his eyes to what life outside of the Reds could look like, and if playing guarantees aren't offered in the future, then we might see Danns reconsider his options in the future.
Right now, however, it's all about what would benefit him the most now that his rehab programme is nearly finished. With the January transfer window about to open, he's not got long to make a choice.
