NASHVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — Luke Altmyer’s Illinois career stacks up with some of the best in program history.
In three seasons, his 7,607 passing yards ranks fifth in school history, and his 57 passing touchdowns with the Illini is the second most in program history, just seven shy of Kurt Kittner’s school record.
After an up and down first season in Champaign, Altmyer had a key part in the Illini’s 19 wins over the past two seasons, the most wins in a two-year stretch in Illini history.
After leading yet another last-minute drive to set up a game-winning field goal, he said he couldn’t have drawn up a much better finish to his Illinois career.
Very grateful, man, and I’ve really understood what’s most important in life, and that’s love and relationality, and these people I do it with,” Altmyer said. “We’re just a bunch of underdogs, man and we do the things the right way.” “We care about each other, we love and we wake up every single day just wanting to be our best using the gifts that God’s given us to be the best that we can be, and that’s just my story man, just doing things the right way and being tough as nails.
Altmyer won Music City Bowl MVP with 196 passing yards and one touchdown, rushing 54 yards and a touchdown as well.
