Speaking during McLaren’s Christmas celebration, Brown portrayed himself as a paternal figure within the organization, while suggesting that the team’s drivers are far more cautious around Stella. Brown oversees McLaren’s Formula One operations alongside Stella and also manages the company’s wider motorsport programs. Stella assumed the team principal role in 2023, replacing Andrea Seidl, and has since guided McLaren through one of the most successful periods in its modern history.
Under Stella’s leadership, McLaren secured back-to-back constructors’ championships. The team’s resurgence was further highlighted earlier this year when Lando Norris captured the drivers’ title, becoming McLaren’s first world champion since Lewis Hamilton achieved the feat in 2008. Norris’ success came after an intense intra-team battle with Oscar Piastri, as both drivers claimed seven race victories during the season.

Although Brown congratulated the Australian on a strong season, the tone of the exchange was questioned by Nico Rosberg, who suggested greater sensitivity may have been appropriate given the disappointment Piastri faced at losing the title to his teammate.
