Cameroon claimed a 2-1 victory over Mozambique in their final group game at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations at Stade Adrar on Wednesday evening.
The Indomitable Lions fluffed an opportunity to open the scoring inside the fourth minute, when goalkeeper Ivane Urrubal spilled the ball.
Mozambique also missed a big chance at the other end, with Gildo Lourenco failing to connect cleanly with Geny Catamo’s low cross.
Catamo broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute with a fantastic individual effort, running into space before bending a shot into the bottom-left corner.
However, Mozambique’s lead only lasted for six minutes, as Nene put the ball into his own net to level the scores.
After a frenetic start to the game, chances became scarce at both ends, allowing the game to end 1-1 at halftime.
Christian Kofane completed the turnaround for the Indomitable Lions before the hour mark as he calmly rifled the ball into the top corner.
At 19 years and five months, Kofane has now become the youngest player to score for the Indomitable Lions at AFCON since Samuel Eto’o did the same at 18 in 2000.
Substitute Etta Eyong almost gave Cameroon a two-goal cushion but was denied by a last-ditch block.
Goalkeeper Devis Epassy did well in stoppage time to deny Urrubal a chance to snatch a late equaliser for Mozambique, handing the Indomitable Lions the maximum points.
Despite their victory, Cameroon finished second in Group F as Ivory Coast also came from behind to beat Gabon 3-2 and top the standings.
The Indomitable Lions will now trade tackles with South Africa in the round of 16 on Sunday.
