KK Arnold out vs. Providence with nasal fracture

Ayanna Patterson will also miss the contest with a concussion.

UConn women’s basketball will be without starting point guard KK Arnold for Wednesday afternoon’s contest with Providence due to a nasal fracture, the team announced at noon. Ayanna Patterson will also sit out with a concussion.

Both players picked up the injuries in practice on Tuesday. The school did not provide a timeline for their return.
Caroline Ducharme (shoulder), Ice Brady (knee inflammation) and Morgan Cheli (foot) all remain sidelined as well.

Without Arnold, the Huskies will have to make their first change to the starting lineup this season. Luckily, Kayleigh Heckel did not appear on the Big East injury report after going down with an upper-body injury late in Sunday’s win over Butler. She’ll likely make her first start at UConn in place of Arnold.

That leaves the Huskies thin at point guard. For potential fill-ins, Azzi Fudd could pick up more ball-handling duties, Sarah Strong could operate as a point forward on more possessions or Kelis Fisher could see an increase in minutes.

UConn will have just 10 players available against Providence. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Network and Peacock.
