More bad news for Xabi Alonso’s side.
Real Madrid’s Spanish Super Cup hopes have taken a blow as star striker Kylian Mbappe has been ruled out for around three weeks with a knee injury.
Los Blancos issued a statement on their France international on Wednesday that read:
“Following tests carried out today by the Real Madrid Medical Services on our player Kylian Mbappé, he has been diagnosed with a sprain in his left knee. His progress will be monitored.”
It’s now been reported that Mbappe is out for at least three weeks, ruling him out of Real Madrid’s La Liga game against Real Betis at the weekend as well as the Super Cup.
Real Madrid are due to play Atletico in the semi-finals of the tournament in Saudi Arabia, while Barcelona are due to face Athletic Club in the other game.
The winners of the two matches will then meet in the final to see who lifts the first silverware of the Spanish season, with Barca hoping to defend the title they won last year.
