According to The Telegraph, Brentford want more than £40m to sanction Wissa’s departure this summer.
The forward has left his club’s pre-season training camp after being unsettled by the speculation around his future.
Newcastle have been in the market for a new striker after Callum Wilson left the club at the end of his contract.
They wanted to sign Hugo Ekitike, but he has opted to join Liverpool.
Eddie Howe’s side have shifted their focus on Wissa, but a deal is not expected to be easy for the forward.
Newcastle face competition from Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest, who are also monitoring the player’s situation at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Brentford have already sold Bryan Mbeumo, Christian Norgaard and Mark Flekken, and so they are reluctant to lose Wissa in the same summer transfer window.
But the club’s model means they will sanction a departure if their valuation is met.
Wissa was a key first-team member for the Bees last season, scoring 20 goals in 39 appearances in all competitions.
But the DR Congo international has only one year left on his current contract and is reportedly unwilling to pen an extension.
Wissa’s age is another factor, as this summer likely represents Brentford’s last chance to collect a significant fee for the player.
