Indiana football transfer portal target: Boston College RB Turbo Richard

Turbo Richard, a transfer out of Boston College, could be a good fit in Indiana’s backfield next season.

Indiana’s going to be in the market for some backfield help this offseason.

Roman Hemby and Kaelon Black, the Hoosiers’ top two running backs will be out of eligibility and off to the NFL if they choose that path. It won’t be as much of a reset as this past offseason, with Khobie Martin likely ready for a larger role and Lee Beebe Jr. slated to return should he choose to stay in Bloomington. But Indiana likes playing multiple backs and will probably seek at least one other option in through the transfer portal no matter what.

One option is Turbo Richard, a sophomore out of Boston College, who entered his name into the portal on Monday, per Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports.

Richard is originally from Charlotte, North Carolina, and attended Northwestern High School. He’s spent the past two seasons with the Eagles, getting carries as a true freshman in 2024 before taking over as the lead back in 2025. He finished this past season with 749 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on 145 carries, good for 5.2 yards per attempt, while adding 213 receiving yards and another two touchdowns on 30 receptions.

Richard doesn’t necessarily have the build Indiana’s backs have had under head coach Curt Cignetti and position coach John Miller, being slightly reminiscent of Justice Ellison, albeit a bit smaller.

Watching Richard play, he has solid burst to be able to turn the corner on a defense and pick up yards after the catch as a receiver, something Indiana’s backs haven’t done much of these past two seasons. He finds open space to make things easier on his quarterback and goes to work from there.

Richard’s just as good when he’s running between the tackles, bringing patience to wait for a lane to open up and not forcing something that isn’t there. He can cut and create additional space in the open field to find even more yardage past the first down marker.

What sticks out the most is how deliberate he is, every action he takes comes with a purpose. He’s not just drifting around out there, he’s trying to find something every second to help a play succeed.

All things considered, Richard would give Indiana’s backfield a level it hasn’t really had with his abilities as a receiver and get plenty of carries immediately.
