Cowboys' KaVontae Turpin addresses recent arrest for weapon, drug possession

Turpin is hoping to move on.

KaVontae Turpin is not starting the new season on a high note.

The do-it-all offensive weapon was arrested in early July for possession of marijuana (less than two ounces) and unlawfully carrying a weapon. Both charges were misdemeanors.

He was asked about the issue on Wednesday and took full accountability.

"At the end of the day, man, I gotta be better. Me and Schotty, we had a great conversation, and we're in a great place right now," Turpin said at training camp. "I've got to be better with my off-the-field issues."

It's a disappointing outcome for a talented player who is expected to be a big part of the Cowboys' offense. Turpin signed a three-year, $18 million in the offseason after proving himself as a gadget weapon.

He returns kicks, plays wide receiver, and is also getting reps in the backfield at this year's training camp.

Lucky for Turpin and Dallas, the charges shouldn't keep him off the field when the season begins. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer confirmed that he had a conversation with the talented player and they're both on the same page moving forward.

If all goes how it should, Turpin will stay out of trouble and be a valuable asset to the Cowboys' offense this season.
