Mia San Mia spirit in the holidays from Uli!
Bayern Munich have always been a socially aware club. With their non-profit setup FC Bayern Hilfe e.V, the Bavarians have been donating to those in need since 2005. This began following the Indian Ocean Tsunami in 2004 that had a devastating impact on the coasts of India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Maldives, Myanmar, and Thailand. Bayern played a charity match to donate all proceedings to the flood relief funds and shortly afterward, formed the non-profit arm.
To this day, Bayern continues to make a difference — whether it be through the club itself, or its players and officials reaching out to those in need directly. In early December, one such charitable action came from the Ehrenpräsident Uli Hoeneß.
Uli, a guest at Bild’s fundraiser ‘Ein Herz für Kinder’ (A Heart for Children) left no stone unturned. Donating €160k for children in need, he made a statement. “I didn’t come empty-handed. I collected donations from the club and from my family,” he said, per @iMiaSanMia. He then explained that, from the total, €60,000 was from his family, and the rest €100,000 from FC Bayern Hilfe.
While he is commonly associated with drama and absurd statements, Hoeneß this time around exemplifies Mia San Mia, and used his presence to spread social change. Holiday spirit done right.
