Video of the aftermath of the fatal crash involving former heavyweight boxing championAnthony Joshua in Lagos, Nigeria, on Dec. 29 has emerged.

The footage shows Joshua, 36, being led from a damaged car and walking to a second vehicle that had emergency lights on it.

Matchroom Boxing and the Ogun State Government both confirmed in public statements that Joshua had been taken to the hospital to be evaluated following the crash. The boxing promoter said Joshua is in "stable condition" and will remain at the hospital for observation.

Nigeria's Federal Road Safety Corps said in a thread on X that a black Lexus Jeep and a stationary commercial Sinotruck were involved in the accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the southwest part of the country.

"Preliminary findings indicate that the Lexus Jeep, which was suspected to be travelling beyond the legally prescribed speed limit on the corridor, lost control during an overtaking manoeuvre (sic) and crashed into a stationary truck well packed by the side of the road," the agency said. It added that "excessive speed and wrongful overtaking" are among the leading causes of fatal highway crashes in Nigeria.
