3 former Oklahoma City Thunder players find new NBA homes on Wednesday.
As the NBA enters the dog days of its calendar, teams across the league have put the final touches to their rosters ahead of the 2025-26 season. It was a somewhat busy day on Wednesday — or at least, what passes as that at this point of the year — as Shams Charania tweeted out several moves.
Funny enough, most included players who used to be on the Oklahoma City Thunder. The NBA champion's stellar developmental program continues to thrive for players who've long been away from the franchise. That's what happens when you turn low-tier prospects into decent players.
While the Thunder didn't make a single move, let's look at the three former OKC players who found new homes:
Lindy Waters III
Waters III has signed a one-year deal with the San Antonio Spurs. He's been quite a find by the Thunder. He was a 2020 undrafted rookie out of Oklahoma State. After playing semi-professional basketball, he was signed by OKC and developed in the G League.
In his first three seasons, Waters III showed he can be an NBA player. He went from a two-way to standard deal. He was traded to the Golden State Warriors last offseason. He was dealt midseason to the Detroit Pistons. Now, he's on the Spurs.
Jared Butler
Butler has bounced around the league. He signed a one-year deal with the Phoenix Suns. The 24-year-old has had four different spots. Including a brief stint on the Thunder in the 2022-23 season. He only appeared in six games as a late two-way player.
He's been with the Washington Wizards and Philadelphia 76ers since. Good to see him earn a standard deal and stay in the NBA after all these years.
Colby Jones
This one is cheating a little bit. While Jones was officially on the Thunder at one point, he was never in uniform. He was part of the Dillon Jones to Wizards trade from last month. But OKC subsequently waived him. The move was made to create a roster spot for Thomas Sorber.
The Pistons signed Jones to a two-way deal. He has spent three seasons on the Sacramento Kings and Wizards. It looks like his NBA career is on its last leg, being downgraded to a two-way salary.
