Manchester City have taken a giant stride towards completing a deal for Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo on Monday, according to new reports.

Momentum around the Ghana international’s future has accelerated rapidly over the last week, with City moving decisively as they look to finalise their priority attacking addition ahead of the January transfer window.

As outlined in previous updates, Etihad Stadium officials including sporting director Hugo Viana have been pushing to bring clarity to the situation before the turn of the year, amid competition and growing anticipation around the player’s release clause.

Pep Guardiola’s side have long identified Semenyo as a winger capable of adding goals from wide areas – a profile City believe is currently lacking within the squad. The pursuit has been driven at senior level, with Viana heavily involved and Guardiola himself a key advocate.

From Bournemouth’s perspective, the expectation has increasingly been Semenyo would depart this winter rather than later in 2026, particularly given the structure of his contract. While the Cherries have maintained a desire to keep the forward as long as possible, comments from Andoni Iraola have acknowledged the situation is largely out of their control.

Now, according to the information of talkSPORT’s Alex Crook and Ben Jacobs, Bournemouth are expecting Antoine Semenyo’s move to Manchester City to be formalised within the next 48 hours.

That development is said to have followed positive talks on Monday over the structure of payments relating to Semenyo’s £65 million release clause, while the Ghanaian international has already verbally agreed personal terms with those at the Etihad Stadium.

However, as it stands, those at Bournemouth are still hoping that Antoine Semenyo can make a farewell appearance for the Cherries against Chelsea in their next Premier League encounter on Tuesday night.

Those details align with earlier reporting that Semenyo is keen for a swift resolution and wants his future settled as early as possible in January.

BBC Sport previously noted that the player’s decision is not financially motivated, but instead centred on the opportunity to work under Pep Guardiola, compete for trophies, and take the next step in his career.

The remaining question now appears to centre on timing rather than direction. While Manchester City are keen to conclude the deal immediately, Bournemouth may yet push for Semenyo’s availability against Chelsea if a total agreement is not finalised in time.

If an agreement is formally concluded within the next two days as expected, Antoine Semenyo would become Manchester City’s first major addition of the January window, reinforcing Guardiola’s squad ahead of a crucial second half to the season.
