Oklahoma Sooners starting quarterback John Mateer had a short message for his social media followers after days of speaking with the press for SEC Media Days.

"Done With the Talking," he wrote on an Instagram post. The post included photos of him in a suit, speaking to the press, and holding a football. His post may be hinting that the time for talking is over, and he's ready to focus on taking action for what could likely be a standout season for OU.

Teammate Jaren Kanak simply replied with one emoji, "😶." And Major Melson wrote, "🫵🫵."

His sister Mckalya Mateer had a more lighthearted response: "THAT caption was better than my idea???"

Mateer has been outspoken during SEC Media Days. He addressed questions about Deion Burks returning after being injured last season, Sooners Wire reported.

"I'm super proud of Deion," he said. "He had a rough year last year, on and off the field. But he's super promising. He cares a lot about football and he cares a lot about the Sooners... I'm super happy for him and proud of him, just where he's came with his body and his mind. He knows the game of football a lot better this year than he did last year. Super proud of him. I'm real excited to play with him."

He also addressed comparisons between him and Baker Mayfield, AtoZ Sports reported.

"It's an honor to be compared to him, and he's obviously super good," Mateer said. "I wouldn't say I'm like him, he's a Heisman winner... but to be like him would be great. But I do like to take things from certain people."

Mateer also said that he integrated quickly with the Sooners program because of how his fellow players welcomed him, News9 reported.

"You can’t lead people you don’t know," he commented.

Mateer also spoke highly of Jaydn Ott, whom he said was "pretty good at everything," and referred to Jer'Michael Carter as "a guy who loves being a Sooner."

And he's expecting great things this season.

"We’ve got a lot of good players, and it’s going to be a lot of fun to watch," Mateer promised.
