The Gamecocks' starting quarterback LaNorris Sellers recently revealed why he turned down an $8 million offer to leave South Carolina.

Sellers talked more about his mindset in an interview on The Triple Option with Urban Meyer and Mark Ingram. While Sellers still did not reveal which university made the offer, he did open up about his thoughts after the offer was made.

Sellers agreed that he didn't consider the offer (or any others), because South Carolina is the place where he wants to be. And one of the big reasons is because of his family.

"It's close to home," he said. "My parents come out for my games. I can still go home for holidays like Christmas, Thanksgiving, and all that. If I ever need something, I can just shoot up the road home. If they want to just come up here, just get away from home, they can come to me. So, I mean, around my family and all, that's all I need."

Near the end of the interview, they spoke about the offer again and why he stayed loyal to South Carolina.

"I started here..." Sellers said. "We built something good last year. This year, we keep building that foundation. I'd rather stay here and keep building on that than go somewhere and have to start over and build another foundation, if that makes sense."

Sellers’ father, Norris Sellers, initially told The Athletic about the $8 million offer, The State reported. The offer was made by an unnamed college, contingent on Sellers playing two more years. Sellers had already signed a new NIL deal with the Gamecocks on December 24, and NCAA rules technically don't allow universities to contact players unless they're in the transfer portal. But, The State reported, colleges still routinely contact players behind the scenes anyway.

Norris Sellers told The Atlantic that his son never considered leaving the Gamecocks.

"We came here to get our education, play ball, and with schools calling, we’re not gonna jump ship because they’re offering more than what we’re getting," Norris Sellers said. "If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it."
