High school girls wrestling: Central Indiana wrestlers to watch

The 2025 IHSAA girls wrestling season is underway! IndyStar is spotlighting seven wrestlers in Central Indiana to watch this season!

The second IHSAA girls wrestling regular season is coming to a close with the sectional tournament set to begin Friday! IndyStar is spotlighting seven wrestlers in Central Indiana to watch as the season kicks into gear, ending with the state meet on Jan. 16 at Corteva Coliseum at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.

Claire May, Roncalli

Roncalli's Claire May wins the 100 pound bout regional final on Friday, Jan. 10, 2025, during the IHSAA girls regional at Alexandria-Monroe Jr/Sr. High School in Alexandria.

The senior made herself known at state earlier this year, taking third place in the 100-bout. May decided to stay at her weight class this season. With a successful tournament run under her belt from last year, expect May to make noise at state this season as she looks to secure a championship at 100 to cap her high school wrestling career.

Kaitlynn Fouty, Whiteland

The Whiteland sophomore is the No. 1-ranked wrestler at 100 in the state, according to the latest IndianaMat rankings. Fouty went down a weight class this season after placing third at 105 at state earlier this year. Whiteland finished fourth as a team in the first IHSAA girls wrestling state tournament thanks to its young star.

June Wagner-Gilbert, New Palestine

New Palestine's June Wagner-Gilbert competes in the 130-pound bout on Friday, Jan. 10, 2025, during the IHSAA girls regional at Alexandria-Monroe Jr/Sr. High School in Alexandria.

Wagner-Gilbert secured first place at 135 at the Kyle Osborn Invitational at McCutcheon on Saturday. The junior competed at 130 last season and finished fourth at state earlier this year. Wagner-Gilbert hopes for another successful postseason run, starting with the sectional meet on Friday.

Jazlinn Diaz-Avalos, Franklin

After consecutive state final appearances at 145, Diaz-Avalos decided to compete at 140 this season. The senior is the second-ranked wrestler in Indiana at her new weight class.

Racheal Adolphe, North Central

Adolphe won state at 235 last season. The North Central junior is ranked third in the state at 235 at this point of the season, but with the state tournament around the corner, Adolphe is still the favorite to repeat as champion.

Kendall Moe, Cathedral

Hamilton Heights' Kendall Moe wins the 105-pound bout on Friday, Jan. 17, 2025, during the inaugural IHSAA girls wrestling state finals at Corteva Coliseum at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis.

The senior transferred from Hamilton Heights to Cathedral ahead of this season and is competing at 115 in her final year of high school wrestling. Moe is a threat at her new weight and has the championship pedigree to guide her. Moe won the state championship at 105 last season while wrestling for the Huskies. Moe finished her junior year 29-0.

Claira Gramlin, Lebanon

Gramlin had a successful junior campaign. The senior placed fifth at 170 at state last season. Gramlin made a 20-pound jump and is wrestling at 190 in her final year.
